Over the last few weeks we’ve been busy behind the scenes working on a new website which we’re launching today and we hope you like!

Ultra168 was set-up just over two years ago with a simple mission to help increase awareness of and better the sport of ultra-running in Australia, providing runners with free advice and information. Even though times have changed, our mission hasn’t. We’ve gone from a small-ish Aussie ultra-running blog read by a few hundred people, to a fully fledged resource that is read all over the world by thousands each day.

As such, we needed to move on from our rather basic ‘platform’ and shift over to something a little more turbo-charged, and that could give us scope to grow even further in the future. What’s important to note though is that Ultra168 is still run ‘for the love of it’. This is not our full-time job, and we still aim to retain that core sense of being a couple of regular guys who just love to write and report upon the ultra-marathon scene. That is who we are in our most raw form.

Editorially, we’ll be taking a slightly different tack with more emphasis on providing you, the reader with as much help and information as possible about running ultras, giving out advice and what gear is about. We’ll still aim to profile people within the sport, but in a way that aims to give everyday runners inside advice and tips to help you become a better – in short people who add real value to our sport.

You’ll also be seeing much more in the way of regular daily news snippets appearing on the website under the banner of ‘latest news’. We love writing the feature articles, but they also take time to produce and we pride ourselves whole-heartedly on the quality of our editorial – we believe it’s the sole reason we’ve grown to where we are now. Great content is what keeps people coming back for more so we believe that a mixture of quick news items and quality articles will give you even more reason to keep coming back.

Now that we’ve moved across to a new platform, this does mean that Ultra168 is incurring regular costs. As such, you may see some advertising on the website from time to time. Advertising is something that we’ve steered clear of since our inception, but there’s only so much money you can throw on the fire 🙂

Rest assured that any advertising on the website will be done appropriately and non-intrusively, and there certainly won’t be any advertorials appearing on Ultra168 – they’re just a waste of everyone’s time. We thoroughly believe in the strength of a story and if a story is good enough, it doesn’t need to be paid for and will be read and embraced by our readers.
