OXFAM Trailwalker Hong Kong – Pre Race interview with Team Blister Sisters

In our final pre race interview we catch up with all women’s team “Blister Sister’s” who will be racing hard for overall race honours as well as dominating the female teams competition. Lloyd catches up with local team member Claire Price.

We will be tweeting live throughout the race so make sure you Like our FaceBook page and follow us on Twitter @ultra168

Team Name: ‘Blister Sisters’

Lloyd: ” Who are your team members & what are their running achievements?”

Claire Price: “Kami is a North Face athlete. I run for Salomon, Jeanette for 2XU and Janet for Salomon-Bonaqua.

Kami: where to start? Google her! US ultra-runner of the year 2009 & 2010, 100k world champion, etc etc. Seriously amazing athlete.

Jeanette & I set the current mixed record on Trailwalker last year in 13h14 with our friends from Hoka One One. I was 2nd female in the CCC (baby sister of UTMB) in 2011.

Janet was on last year’s 2nd mixed team on TW, in a very solid 13h55 in very tough conditions. She also won Green Power 50km [HK] last year. We’re all regular 1st place finishers in local trail races.”

Lloyd: “Is this the first time that your team has competed together at this distance?”

Claire: “This is our first race all together but we’re all experienced at the distance & the three of us know the race very well except for Kami as this is the 1st time on a team trail race like this & she’s very excited about our women’s team. This will be our 3rd Trailwalker together for Jeanette & I. We ran 14h11 on Team Green Ladies record-setting team in 2007.

Lloyd: “What does your training involve for the trailwalker?”

Claire: ” We all run quite a lot when we can & I think we all do some form of cross training too (yoga, weights etc – it varies).  I’m not sure how many hours a week that would be but I guess 8-12hrs with all training combined. We all juggle different things: I work full time in real estate, Kami & Jeanette are busy mums. Kami is one of the faces of North Face as well, which involves international races & taking part in PR & marketing events for North Face.  Janet organises the now hugely-popular HK100. Just as important as the training is the fact that we’re all good friends & really like each other. We’re excited to do the race together & will be looking out for each other, communicating & working as a true team throughout the race. You’re only as fast as your slowest team member, & we’ll all have ups & downs at different times! The dynamic of a women’s team will be cool and maybe a bit less ego & I think we’ll be kinder to each other than some of the guys would be!”

Lloyd: ” So what finishing time are you predicting for your team?”

Claire: “Hopefully around 14 hours or less if all the stars align. You never know what can happen on Trailwalker – good or bad! A fast time is quite weather-dependent & everyone has to be having a good day.”

Lloyd:  “Who do you see as your biggest competitors/rivals?”

Claire: “Team Green have a strong women’s team. I’m not really sure about other womens’ teams but there are lots of great female trail runners out there & of course we’ll be trying to reel in as many mens’ & mixed teams as we can too! We’re looking forward to a good day out on the trails.”
