After nearly 100kms, the rip-roaring pace might be taking its toll on Dave Waugh as Mike Le Roux has taken a five-minute lead at the 98.5kms point. Mike was through the checkpoint in 9hrs 20mins, still on course record pace.
Dave Waugh is five minutes behind him, with Dave Coombs and Dave Eadie another 20 minutes behind Dave Waugh.
The guys will be heading back to base now at checkpoint 2 for a refuel, and to then head out onto the Eastern section of the course for the last 50kms.
I'm a mediocre runner who can bat above his average when I train hard. A man of extremes, I do enjoy everything life offers and consider it an absolute pleasure just to be able to put one foot in front of the other and let my mind wander somewhere different.
