Live Raceday Updates – “when we know you’ll know”
10:17am update – Team 339 Quality Meats are 5 mins away from CP2 Berowra
10:28am – Team 572 www.endurancestore.com.au 3 mins behind Quality Meats into Berowra
10:50am – third team through Berowra was a mixed team, Team 572 were very slick in the checkpoints, only running with handhelds. Will this cost them later on? It’s hot out there today and handhelds may not be enough….
12:05pm – Text from Darrel, Team Mad Men (202) is a man down at 33kms, I repeat a man down… Over and out.
1pm – Lead team, Quality Meats are ten minutes up on last year’s time… GO MEATS!
1:07pm – report from CP3- Meats with a 19 min lead over endurancestore.
1:17pm – @100mileman has just arrived at CP5 with team Quality Meats #339 about 40 mins away an building a nice 20 minute buffer over team #572 – Latest comments from Team Quality Meats “having a blast, but a bit warm now to put the hammer down!
2:30pm: Quality Meats in and out of CP5 in 3 mins and 8 mins up on the course record. They’re extending their lead over the second placed team, who appear to be losing a little bit of ‘puff’.
3:30pm: Quality Meats just left CP6 and moving well and in jovial spirits. Heat of the day abating somewhat. 4 minutes under record pace, 31 minutes ahead of endurancestore.
4:39pm – Quality Meats have a 43min lead on endurancestore, plus they don’t have to deal with Gordi and his ‘comfort breaks’ 🙂
4:41pm – Team Mad Men doing very well now too, currently placed 7th, but only 6 mins behind the 5th placed team. Giddy up Darrel… work them like a Mother!
4:56pm – Quality Meats in and out of CP7 in minutes… looking strong according to reports from @100mileman aka Gillan “Jornet” Warner
5:36pm – Meats are over an hour up now on endurancestore. Gillian is at the final CP awaiting their arrival before the big push home – Can they get the record?
QUALITY MEATS Win 2011 Sydney OXFAM Trailwalker in 12hours 10 minutes and 40 seconds. 2 minutes off the course record but they are really pleased to bring home a consecutive victory on a pretty tough course. The boys were strong all day and moved through the checkpoints with pinpoint perfection.
I estimate them to be over 1 hour and 20 minutes ahead of the second place team.
10:49pm – Four teams are in, and apparently team Mad Men are on their way in for a great fifth placed finish according to reports. It should be close though with City Bible Forum hot on their heels. Go DARREL!

It’s quite late in the day to be starting a preview as such, but just to let you know that Ultra168’s very own Marcus Warner (@100mileman) will be tweeting live from the event as he crews last year’s winning team ‘The Quality Meats’.
The ‘Meats’ as they’re known are led by one of my fellow Balmain residents, Jono O’Loughlin, and they’ve made their intentions very clear in that they intend to try to beat their time from last year of 12hrs 7mins. If they do, it’s hard to see anybody else beating them, as Jono in particular uses this race as a build up to the big dance later in the year, The Great North Walk 100 miler.
The Sydney Trailwalker will see 550 teams ‘walk’ from the Hawkesbury to the Harbour, through the rugged and beautiful bushland of northern Sydney. Teams have 48 hours to finish the ‘race’, and to qualify for a placing in the rankings, the teams must finish with all four team members.
Our very own Darrel Robins will also be ‘running’ tomorrow as part of team Mad Men (202) as he too prepares for his GNW assault later in the year.
MEARNSY!
He looks like he’s having a quality time there 🙂
