OK, so we couldn’t go a day without mentioning the little guy, so here are some more thoughts from Kilian on this year’s Western States race – don’t worry, only a few more days and we’ll be done 🙂 (Thanks to @ChrisBurglar for the heads up on this one)
Interesting to read his thoughts on the differences between European and US runners, and that US runners seem more relaxed on the trail. Whereas I assume the Europeans are a little more uptight and quiet. Maybe this is due to the competition and the way it is structured in the two different continents. You get the feeling that in Europe, more maybe at stake in terms of winning, prize money and competition.
Regardless, it’s always good to get some perspective from the top guys. Only 3 more sleeps until race day. Andrew checked in this morning and all is good from his end. It’s feet up time now, lots of relaxing ahead of the big dance.
Having raced in both Europe and the US (100 mlers) I can say without doubt the mindset is different. The talent pool is a lot deeper in Europe. It is scary how may top ultra runners there are there.
I hope Kilian nails his race strategy this time round at WS. Heat acclimatisation might be the issue for him…we’ll see.
