Coming soon – Review of the Salomon XT advanced skin 5 s-lab

Just a quick post to let you know that I’ve just received delivery of this piece of gear – something I’ve been wanting to get my hands on for some time now. I used it straight away yesterday on my 65km run along the Great North Walk, and I have to admit that I’m mightily impressed with it at this stage.

It has all the possible pockets you could ever want, the only slight concern I have is the ability to carry enough water, especially on a trail like the Great North Walk, and given our climate here in Australia, the sheer humidity in the summer. One and a half litres simply isn’t enough, and I’m not going to start using two bottles in the front to carry holders. I’m going to try to see if I can get my 2 litre Nathan bladder in the backpack, which I’m pretty confident of. If all goes well, this could be the pack for the GNW 100 miler in November – all I need to do is buy another, so that checkpoint turnarounds are as quick as possible, and that means shelling out another $200 for one – still, needs must 🙂

Full review coming shortly, once I’ve had time to really mess about with it and put it through the mill.

I'm a mediocre runner who can bat above his average when I train hard. A man of extremes, I do enjoy everything life offers and consider it an absolute pleasure just to be able to put one foot in front of the other and let my mind wander somewhere different.
