Is this “The Endurance Capital of the World” ?

Welcome to the first of our video updates from this years Western States 100. Over the coming days Ultra168 will be bringing you some unique insights into what makes this such an iconic race direct from the course.  We will be talking with competitors, pacers, volunteers, race organisers and some of the key sponsors. Most importantly we will be spending time on the course running as many sections as possible.

Over the coming days we will be based in two camps, firstly in Auburn, home of the finish, before we move to the snows of the high country at race start, Squaw Valley, where final preparations will be made.

With our own Andrew Vize running and Marcus Warner pacing him expectations are high for a quality finish from the Aussies. We hope to catch up with our fellow Aussies to see how their race prep is going.

It is definitely the quiet before the storm but the locals are starting to discuss the usual subjects such as race conditions, the weather, the snow and who is going to be up the pointy end of the field and whether or not an overseas runner can feature on either podiums. This is definitely a view that polarises our readers as Dan is finding out from his recent post.

Today, Marcus gives a quick overview of Auburn  which proclaims to be the “Endurance Capital of the World” and onto the race finish at Placer High School.
