Next weekend (May 14th and 15th) sees the running of the fourth North Face 100km event in the Blue Mountains. The race has grown massively since it started in 2008, with over 850 competitors registered to line up at 7am on Saturday morning.
What’s noticeably different about this year’s race is the addition of some serious running talent to the starting line-up. A certain Killian Journet, widely regarded as one of the best ultra runners on the planet is making the trek over to Australia as part of team Salomon. The move is seen by many as sticking two fingers up to the North Face brigade as Salomon aim to take out a clean sweep of a North Face event.
This year, Andrew Vize will be running in the pairs event with Marcus Warner and in all likelihood, will probably win the event, and maybe set a new course record. Darrel is taking on the full 100km solo event, and after a solid 13hrs 13mins last year, will surely be seeking a sub 13 finish after a stellar performance in the Northburn 100 miler 6 weeks ago.
Terry will also be competing in the pairs with his sister. It seems that sport is firmly in the family as she has represented the Australian women’s cricket team. As ever, full reports to follow after the event. Dan will be sitting this one out and instead, will be taking lots of pictures of the boys, as well as the leaders – be sure to come back for full reports and high quality pictures 🙂
